Upgrade From WordPress 2.8.6 to 3.0.1
Finally I got a chance to upgrade my blog from version 2.8.6 to 3.0.1 using SimpelScripts. Unexpectedly this was the smoothest upgrade I had. 🙂
I used SimpleScript to do the upgrade but few common tips to follow before you actually upgrade any WordPress version:
- First Install WP-DBManager plugin. One of the configuration option helps to backup the current database. The other option is to use phpMyAdmin & dump the entire database with table structures.
- Disable all plugin’s. Sometimes incompatibility might screw you up.
- You are set 🙂
- Then SimpleScripts did the remaining work.
- In case things go south and you don’t want to restore the old WordPress, it is possible to import the data/structure from the old database to new database with bit of efforts. (Assuming you have familiarity with the SQL). Because WordPress structure is the simplest one. That’s why I like WordPress over b2evolution.
